    What are the regulations for importing meat?

    All commercial shipments of meat and meat food products (derived from cattle, sheep, swine, goats, and horses)offered for entry into the United States are subject to the regulations of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and will be inspected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture officers and APHIS veterinary inspectors prior to release by CBP. Meat products from other sources (including, but not limited to wild game) are subject to APHIS regulations; the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act, enforced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). Game imported for personal use is generally approved for import. Game birds, bear, etc. from Canada areĀ permitted entry, as are deer, elk, bison, mouse, caribou, wild sheep and wild goat, as long as the traveler has a hunting license or tag.
